PASAN AND JUSUN Assures NASHIA of Keying into the Nasarawa Health Insurance Scheme

The Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) and Judiciary Staff of Nigeria (JUSUN) have assured to key into the Nasarawa State Health Insurance Scheme (NASHIA)

The two unions made this known at the interactive session between their representatives, Suleiman S. Oshafu and Anderson Maigona, Chairman PASAN and Assistant Financial Secretary JUSUN respectively and the Executive Secretary NASHIA, Dr. Yahaya Bawa Ubam with Management Staff. The meeting was held at the Conference Hall of the Agency, Tuesday 19, December, 2023.

The representative of PASAN said initially, they were not properly briefed to know the importance of the scheme, that is why their union did not key into the scheme since last year, but today they were enlightened, and therefore they not hesitate to join the scheme.

He expressed his satisfaction with the scheme and commended the state government for absorbing over two hundred (200) casual staff of PASAN into the state civil service, stressing that they will automatically enroll into the formal sector of the scheme.

On their part, JUSUN representative explained that at the initial stage of the scheme their members were slow to enroll because of the challenges that enrollees were facing in some of the facilities to access health care services. They assured of their readiness to key into the scheme due to the tremendous improvement in service delivery.

Also speaking, the State Chairman Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Comrade Ayuba Ismaila Oko urged the two unions to embrace the scheme, and testified that his wife is a beneficiary, and even during her delivery, he only paid a little percent for the service rendered.

He therefore advised that nobody should be left out of the scheme because of the benefit package.

Responding, the Executive Secretary of NASHIA appreciated their coming and explained that he was worried when he discovered that they were not among the list of enrollees. He noted all their observations and assured that he will leave no stone unturned in ensuring all areas of complain are fully addressed. He also suggested that such meeting should be sustained to check the progress of the system.

In another development, the Association of Private Healthcare Providers paid a courtesy visit to the ES to congratulate him on his well deserved appointment. They also used the opportunity to appreciate him for recognizing them as private health care providers.

The Chairman of the Private Healthcare Association, Dr. G. A. Obutu described the scheme as a good development in the health sector of Nasarawa State, assuring of their support towards the success of the scheme.

The Chairman further said, "we are looking forward to discussing ways in which our collective effort can enhance the health care landscape in Nasarawa. We are eager to explore potential collaborations, share insight and contribute to the development of the policies that prioritize the health and welfare of our fellow citizens."
