PROTOCOL
About a year ago, I flagged off the Nasarawa State Health Insurance Scheme with a lot of promise and expectation as it’s very first enrollee to be captured.
Today we are again launching one of the plans of the scheme that is very dear to my heart.
As part of the enabling law establishing the scheme, 0.5% of the consolidated revenue of the state was set aside as equity fund to cover the health care needs of the vulnerable members of the society. This is one of the social safety nets programme of this administration through the State Health Insurance Scheme to provide Basic Minimum Package of Health Services to the poor and vulnerable amongst us.
I am glad to inform you that I have approved the release of the equity fund to the state agency to cover the premium of the vulnerable group.
It is also important to note that the state has also keyed into BHCPF Programme of the federal government, and the state has received disbursement through the NHIS and NPHCDA gateways accordingly. This would also go a long way to augment the state’s equity funds programme.
However, despite the laudable efforts by government at all levels, State Government alone cannot provide the healthcare needs of all citizens. It is in the light of this that I encourage civil servants, public servants and organized private sectors and informal sectors to key into the states contributory scheme to ensure sustainable access to quality healthcare without financial barrier for all.
I also call on well to do members of the society, corporate organizations, businesses and development partners to avail themselves of this opportunity to be our brother’s keeper by adopting Vulnerable members of the community by paying for their Health Insurance Premiums.
It gives me great pleasure to Flag off the state’s equity programme for the states vulnerable group this day as we mark 2020 Universal Healthcare Coverage day.
Thank you and God bless you all.
